Lyrics
He awoke and smelled the day
Kept his eyes closed and heard the rain
Thought of what the day might maybe bring
Then woke her up, but couldn’t help but sing
(Humming)
She kissed his neck, and he pulled her in
Rolled her on her back and caressed her skin
Licked her fingers in a casual way
Thinking of a poem he might write that day
(Long interlude of humming)
Build: He said, honey, I think…
It’s time your poet learns to sing
Chorus: And you know it’s gonna be a good thing
When your poet learns to sing
When they got up, the calendar showed a chock-full day
She smiled as the dryer blew her hair that windswept way
He picked up the phone and placed a few short calls
Then said, honey, I cleared your calendar, so let’s get in the car
In the mountains the air was clear
The picnic spread below the sky was inviting and near
Held in each other’s arms they heard the silence and the birds
Then he started to hum again, but just couldn’t find the words
(Humming)
(Repeat Build and Chorus)
(Repeat Chorus)
Mmm, honey, I think…
It’s time your poet learns to sing
